Prevent an Easter Plumbing Disaster

Prevent an Easter Plumbing Disaster

Easter is this upcoming Sunday. However you plan on celebrating, whether it’s painting eggs and having an Easter egg hunt or preparing dinner for family and guests, the last thing you need is to have a clogged sink or toilet.  At Lapin Services, we actually care about your piece of mind so we created a quick list for you to follow to prevent an Easter plumbing disaster.

Don’t Treat Your Kitchen Sink as a Trash Can

Fats, oils and grease are huge drain killers.  Meaning they will clog up your plumbing system causing expensive repairs.  There are many foods that contain fats oils and grease so keeping them out of your sink is important.  There are also plenty of other materials you shouldn’t be putting down you drains such as bleaches and other chemicals.  Check out this blog article to keeping your drains healthy.
If you have a garbage disposal, there are a host of other things you shouldn’t be putting down your sink. Foods that have fibrous materials such as corn husks and celery can get tangled up in the garbage disposal and cause damage.  Read more about garbage disposals to get up to speed here.
Plain and simple, if you’re not sure if something should be going down your sink, then just throw it in the trash.  In fact, we recommend you scrape your plates thoroughly before placing them in the sink to avoid this mess altogether.

Place a Garbage Bin In Your Bathroom

There are too many people out there who tend to flush more than what they’re supposed to. They think that once something gets flushed, it’s gone forever.  Out of sight, out of mind.  Little do they know, however, that flushing the wrong things could cause some pretty bad headaches.  So we recommend placing a trash bin near the toilet so that you and your guests can throw away those cotton swabs and other materials rather than flushing.  The only things that should be flushed are toilet paper, and human waste.

Spread Out Shower Times

If you have family or guests spending the night, we recommend to spread out shower times.  We suggest waiting at least ten to fifteen minutes in between showers.  This will help prevent clogs as well as prevent you from running out of hot water.  You can also turn up the water heater to meet the increased demand.
No matter what the occasion, Lapin Services is here to provide you with the best tips to prevent any septic or plumbing disasters.  We understand that the worst thing to happen over a Holiday is to have leaks, clogs or worse!  Your piece of mind is important to us so be sure to give our professionals a call for any septic or plumbing emergency.
