Toilet Repairs
Homeowners can make most common toilet repairs with a quick trip to a local hardware or plumbing store. You can do this as a simple DIY project on the weekend.
Common toilet issues are caused by a faulty tank flapper. It will start to lose its form from the water quality. Once this happens the flapper will allow water to exit the tank and go into the bowl of the toilet. Homeowners can loose hundreds of gallons of water without knowing it, due to a bad flapper. It may even lead to over saturation of your drain field if you’re on a septic system.
A common issue with toilet repairs is the fill valve. It introduces water from the home’s potable water source and fills the tank of the toilet. When this part fails it is usually due to debris build up in the valve. This prevents the water from filling the tank. It can also have the opposite effect and prevent the valve from closing completely, causing water to continually flow into the tank. This would cause the tank water level to stay at a high level and rise above the overflow tube. When this happens it could also lead to high water usage and drain field issues.
Most of the time we would recommend having a licensed plumbing contractor come out and assess the issues with the toilet to make sure it will function properly and prevent any damage to the toilet or the home in general. Another repair that may be necessary, such as tank to bowl gaskets or wax ring seals can be more complex and difficult to repair. These repairs if not done correctly can create issues that may lead to water damage to the home.
Toilet replacements
