4 Tips You can use to help avoid Septic Issues.

The maintenance and care of your septic system is a key factor in the longevity of the life of your system. You can play your part in helping to increase the life of the system by avoiding certain bad habits. If you recently purchased a home that is on septic and previously relied on the sewer system you shouldn’t worry. We know this may be a cause for concern, however it does not have to. Having some basic knowledge on the dos and don’ts of septic care can go along way. Here are 4 basic tips you can use to help keep a healthy septic system and help avoid major septic issues.

  1. Pump-out your septic system regularly. It is recommended that you pump out your tank every 2 to 3 years to lower the risk of problems developing.
  2. Add Bacteria treatment.  Making sure your system has the right balance of bacteria can help with the breaking down of solids in the system.
  3. Install and maintain the filter. Having a filter installed in your system can help prevent solids from leaving the septic tank and into the drainfield.
  4. Watch what you flush. Certain things like grease and sanitary wipes can cause your system to not function properly and can lead to backups. Generally you do not want to put anything down that is not Biodegradable.
